HOLMES Barbara Ann (DeValerio) Age 73, St. Paul Educator/Actress Barbara died peacefully at home August 2 while under the loving care of husband, Richard and caregiver, Rosalie Kluegel. She fought a nearly 20-year battle with Alzheimer disease. Preceded in death by father, Patrick J. DeValerio Sr.; mother, Melvina DeValerio; and brother, Patrick J. DeValerio Jr. Barbara loved many pursuits, including: teacher/librarian in St. Anthony Village schools (nominated for MN Teacher of the Year); secondary school teacher in St. Paul and New York City where she lived 22 years; Director of Museum Theater, Science Museum of MN; Instructor Univ. of MN theater dept; Host and creator of children's TV show "Sunday Storybook" WTCN-TV; Director of Children's programing at WCCO-TV; Actress at Guthrie Theater and other Twin City and New York City venues; TV celebrity interviewer local stations and for nationally syndicated TV progams. A private ceremony is planned. Special thanks for the excellent care received from Our Lady of Peace Hospice (OLP) staff: Kelly, Lynette, Comfort, Mary, and Pat, and from personal caregivers Amy Rolfzen, Kris, and Jane. Donations may be sent in Barbara's name to Our Lady of Peace.
