Kenneth James Hughes of Spring Hill, Florida passed away on December 11, 2021, at the age of 77 years.

He was born on August 21, 1944, in Amsterdam, New York to the late Kenneth D and Maybeth A (Patterson) Hughes.

Ken was a graduate of Scotia Glenville High School in 1962. He attended Bentley College in Massachusetts with a BS in Finance to become a CPA. He travelled internationally in his early career. He worked for several companies before opening his own business in the late 80s, Hughes Real Estate and Accounting Offices in Scotia, New York, upon retiring he moved to Spring Hill, Florida.

He played basketball and baseball throughout High School. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, horseshoes, bocce ball. In his later years Ken enjoyed playing dominoes, left right center, and going to the Casino to play blackjack.. He was a dedicated and loving father who was seen at his children’s sporting events: football, cheerleading, wrestling, and hockey. He also coached his son’s baseball and soccer teams. He had a Lake House on Algonquin Lake in Wells, New York, that his children, grandchildren, and family spent many years enjoying fishing, swimming, waterskiing, boating, and hiking in the Adirondacks.

He enjoyed watching sports and rooting for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Rays. He was an active member of the Rotary Club in Scotia and received the distinction of the Paul Harris Award. He was a member of the Moose Club 521 in Spring Hill and has a passion for video bowling there with friends. He enjoyed socializing with his Florida family. He was also a member of Brookville Elks Lodge 2582 for many years.

Ken was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn J Hart.

He is survived by his life partner Lucille Hopeck of Spring Hill, Florida, daughter Julie (Cyrus) Hoagland of Little Falls, sons Kenneth A. Hughes of Glenville, and Marc Hughes of Gloversville, and ex wife Joan Nous to whom he was married for 23 years. Also survived by a granddaughter Taylor (David) Jones, and grandsons Kenneth VA Hughes, Nicholas Degraff. He also has an extended family of several children: son Michael (Aileen) Unieski, daughters Diana (John) Hulett and Lisa Unieski, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Calling Hours will be on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, from 6pm to 8pm at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, Inc, 1 Mohawk Avenue, Scotia, NY. Masks are recommended. A memorial service will be held at 8pm.

A second memorial service will be held the Moose lodge 521 is Spring Hill, Florida, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
