GLADYS BRUCE Seneca, SC - Gladys Bruce, 99, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 16, 2015 at Emeritus Assisted Living in Jenson Beach, FL. Born on October 9, 1915 in Saluda, South Carolina, she was the widow of the late George Roselvelt Bruce of 52 years and a beloved teacher of many. She was the oldest of four children to Mike Fletcher O'Brien and Irene Hazel O'Brien. She was a graduate of Lander College and taught math at Fair Play, Oakway and Seneca High Schools during her career until retirement. She also served as Sponsor of student council at Seneca High School. She was a member of Seneca Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also served on many church committees. She was president of the Golden Age Club and a member of the church choir. Gladys is survived by her son, Dr. George Ray Bruce and his wife Cindy M. Bruce as well as a sister, Helen O'Brien Corley of Saluda, South Carolina. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Tracy B. Butts and her husband Dale Butts; and Chip Bruce. She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her parents and two siblings, Juanita O'Brien Walker and Mary O'Brien Tollefson. She was loved by her many students and often called them her children. A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Seneca Baptist Church with Dr. Von Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the church.
