Melvin Charles ‘Hush’ McNeil New Waterford It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Melvin Charles ‘Hush’ McNeil, announce his peaceful passing on December 3, 2021, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Born in New Waterford on October 25, 1938, he was the son of the late Neil and Emerance (Vandenbrook) McNeil. Melvin was a proud retired coal miner who worked in No. 12 Colliery and Lingan Colliery until his retirement in 1990, after serving 33 years. Melvin loved to spend time at his cottage and was up for any road trip he was invited to. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was known for his countless stories. His witty personality made everyone who met him, love him. He was also known to challenge a person in a great game of cribbage and could still beat his opponent until just a few weeks ago. He loved attending hockey games, playing ring toss, and just spending time with “the old girl”, until her passing in March 2020. He had many passions in life, but his greatest passion was to keep his girl happy. He also had an amazing talent to do leatherwork and could create anything out of a piece of leather. He was a wonderful husband, dad, papa and grandpa, brother, brother-in-law, and friend to all, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Melvin is survived by his children Judy (Mickey) Burke, Gordie (Alanna), Karen (Blair) Bailey, Kenny (J-Lynn); grandchildren Kerrilynn, Allison, Albert, Marilyn, Megan, Eric, Casey, Holly, Avery, Gavin, Cameron; great-grandchildren Myla, Kruz, Eva, Ellie, Carter, Lexi, Logan, Parker, Emily, Ava, Jackelyn, Leighla, Gwendelyn; sisters Diane, Rea, Rosina (Ban), brother Peter. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his life, best friend and wife Eva, daughter Marilyn, brothers Malcom, Raymond, Myles, Eddie, and Joey. Thank you to the nursing staff and doctors in the New Waterford hospital for his care during his brief stay. Special thank you to Dr. Lowry for your kindness and for reaching out to the family during this difficult time. Your kindness will not be forgotten. Donations in Melvin’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Red Cross. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will on Friday, December 10 from 11-12 pm, followed by a chapel service at 12 pm, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. A luncheon will be held at the K.O.C. on Plummer Avenue. Masks as well as proof of double vaccination are required.
