Mr. Amos BJ Booker Obituary

Mr. Amos BJ Booker was born October 21, 1946, in Terry, Mississippi (MS) to the late BJ Booker and Emma Lee Wilson. He received his education from Terry School in Terry, MS. He was married to the late Margaret Collins Moore to that union four children were born. He is currently married to Judith Anne Bostic Booker.

He was a member of Jackson Revival Center (downtown campus) for a short period of time under the leadership of the late Pastor Raymond O. Biard where he rededicated his life to Christ. He later joined Mount Charity Baptist Church where he served under the leadership of Reverend Dr. B. L. Ervin.

Amos worked at Swift Meat Company as a meat packer for a few years before becoming employed with Mid-State Construction for over twenty-five years where he was a carpenter and a machine operator. Construction was his passion, and he was very good at it. Before he retired for good, he worked as a cashier (as he called it – extra cash) at Mac’s Fresh Market in Ridgeland, MS. In his spare time, he enjoyed baseball where he played left field and sometimes catcher. He could hit a ball out the park but would only run to first base and stop. Amos was determined that he was not going to run to home plate. He would always ask for a runner to take his place. He was a cheerful and outgoing person and poured out love to anyone he met. He loved his family especially his children and grandchildren. Uncle Amos showed favor to all his nieces and nephews.

He leaves to cherish his memories four children: Vivian Moore of Jackson, MS; Derick (Valarie) Booker of Jackson, MS; Amos Booker (Cristy) of Jackson, MS; Leon Booker of Jackson, MS; two stepdaughters, Maria Lunsford of Ridgeland, MS; Stephanie Douglas of Ridgeland, MS; one stepson, Calvin Mason; four brothers, Jimmy (Nadine) Wilson of Moss Point, MS; Albert (Norma) Wilson of Terry, MS; Ellis (Rosa) Wilson of Madison, MS; Larry (Brenda) Wilson of Terry, MS; five sisters, Alice (Richard) Merrills of Chicago, IL; Mary Lee (Willie) Moore of Terry, MS; Viola Walker of Hammond, LA; Alberta (Thaddeus) Ross of Byram, MS; Betty Kendrick of Terry, MS, one aunt, Ethel Mae Kendrick.

Relatives that have preceded him in death: two brothers, Louis Booker and Darnell Wilson; one great grandchild; and a host of uncles and aunts.

He leaves behind to cultivate his memories, 3 generations: 25 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
