Malika Wijesekera

Malika Wijesekera died peacefully on December 1, 2021. She was a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Malika was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka on December 2, 1935 and spent most of her childhood in Kamburupitiya, Sri Lanka, with her two siblings and mother. After her marriage to Ananda she moved to Colombo, Sri Lanka where they lived together for 50 years before migrating to the United States to spend time and be close to their grandchildren. In Sri Lanka, she developed a wide circle of friends and was very active in many social and religious causes. Throughout her life she enjoyed reading and loved to travel. She travelled to many exciting countries in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas with her late husband and was always intrigued by the various cultures and people she met. She was also an avid swimmer and walker and until the last few months of her life she walked at-least 45 minutes each day and made many friends along her walking path. Malika with her late husband Ananda supported two leading Buddhist temples in her hometown of Kamburupitiya and the temple the family frequently visited in Colombo. She, with her husband provided medical equipment to hospitals in Sri Lanka and supported educational and medical needs for families in need in Sri Lanka. Malika’s husband Ananda passed away in November 2019. She is survived by her children Saliya, Harindra, and Eshani, daughters in law - Nilmini and Fazila, son in law -Nalin and grandchildren- Sanjay, Devin, Mikail and Mischa. Malika
