Vernetta Marie Crawford, 99 of Washington, died Sunday, December 5, 2021 at the United Presbyterian Home.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00AM, Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Bernie Weir officiating        . Burial will be at the West Chester Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Beatty-Peterseim Funeral, Cremation Care and Monument Service is assisting with care of Vernetta. Memorials in the name of Vernetta Crawford have been designated to the St. James Parish or Hospice of Washington Co..

 

Vernetta was born October 23, 1922 in Washington County, the daughter of Raymond and Cora (Baker) Trier. She graduated from Keota High School and Cosmetology School in Ottumwa, IA.  She was united in marriage to Marion D. Crawford, March 4, 1946 at the St. James Parsonage.

 

She was a faithful member of the St. James Catholic Church and St. James Altar and Rosary. She worked as a hairdresser in Fairfield until she was married and later worked at McCleery Cumming for 25 years, retiring in 1984. She also worked part time at Winga’s Café.

 

Survivors include children, Phyllis Wager of Frisco, Tx, Robert Crawford of Riverside and stepdaughter Margaret Stout of Johnston, IA; sister LaVonne Kerkove of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, Wendy Miller, Eric Wager, Jayson and Cody Crawford; five great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion in May 1990; son Gary, April 2011; five brothers, Donald, Merlin, Robert, Dennis and Verle.
