Sharon Mathers Bannister

Sharon “Sheri” Mathers Bannister, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on December 4, 2021, at the young age of 79. She was born February 27, 1942 in Dublin, Ohio to Ray and Martha (Thatcher) Mathers. She married Jerald “Jerry” Barnes Bannister in September of 1962 and they had two daughters and a son. To her children, she was “Mother Nature”, always taking them on adventures in the woods, by a lake, or in the mountains. Sheri attended Dublin High School, and then Ohio University, where she and Jerry met. She spent most of her childhood playing with her two younger brothers Jeff Mathers and Mike Mathers, whom she adored. Since meeting Jerry, she spent most of her adult life following his career, which took them all over the U.S. and Geneva, Switzerland. In 1981, they settled in Perrysburg, Ohio. Upon settling in Perrysburg, Sheri became an Avon representative and loved the opportunity to meet with friends and neighbors, she was quite the socialite. Later in life, Sheri received a degree in Business which landed her a sales position with A-Copy. She sold computerized typewriters and received multiple awards for top sales. Sheri had many interests and hobbies. She loved her family and was fascinated researching her ancestry. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as the Society of Mayflower Descendants. She enjoyed art, including painting on objects like baskets, gourds, and sleds. She shared many interests with her husband like bird watching, tennis, skiing, and cooking. Sheri was a master gardener and loved sharing her bounty with family and friends. Sheri is survived by her children Michaella (Jeff) Schaller of Perrysburg, OH, Deborah (Tim) Taagen of Eagle, CO, and Ryan (Kathleen) Bannister of Perrysburg, OH; grandchildren, Tyler (Macy) Schaller, Stuart Schaller, and Brecken (Mason) Tinney, Claire and Hans Taagen; and brother Jeff Mathers of Aubrey, TX. She is predeceased by her husband Jerry Bannister and brother Mike Mathers. Friends and family will be received on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 3-8 p.m. in the Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary St., Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. Additional visitation will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 10 a.m. until the time of the ceremony to celebrate Sheri’s life at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to Jerry. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the 577 Foundation, 577 E. Front Street, Perrysburg, OH 43551.
