Benedict C. Viola

Benedict (Ben) Charles Viola 90, of Arlington, MA a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2021. Ben is survived by his wife and best friend Mary (Spence) to whom he was married to for 48 years. He is survived by his beloved daughter Karen (Kuhn) and her husband Mike of Arlington, MA and proud Papa of Catherine Paige Kuhn. Loving son of the late Cosmo and Vincenza Viola of Cambridge. Dear brother of Florence (Viola) Owens and her husband Robert. Mary (Viola) Fancieullo and her husband Frank. Alice (Viola) Leman and her husband Robert. And the late Charles Viola, and his cherished sister-in-law Joan (McCaigue) Viola of Woburn. He is the proud uncle of the newly elected Alderman of Woburn Charles Viola, along with many other nieces, nephews, and godchildren. After serving proudly in the Marines during the Korean War, he met a young Mary (Spence) while walking his sister home from the library one afternoon. After a 10 year courtship, they married in 1973. A member of the Bricklayers Union early in his life, he spent most of his career with a local roofing company, not retiring until the age of 73. Ben wore his heart on his sleeve, and loved nothing more than being a father to his pride and joy, Karen. Dance-Dad, 5 Star Chef, Coach, Friend and Superhero are all words used to describe Ben. Ben effortlessly and proudly went to every practice, game, lesson and recital with Karen. He was Mr. Mom before it was a thing, coordinating slumber parties, showing off his cooking skills with legendary breakfasts, snacks and dinners and keeping up on the latest gossip all while providing a safe and loving environment for Karen and her friends. A life-long Patriots fan, instilling a true love of all things football and Patriots with his daughter Karen; Sundays during Patriots season became their favorite days together. Ben inspired everyone he touched, most recently overcoming the amputation of his lower leg at age 88. Not only did he learn to walk again, but was taking dance lessons shortly before his passing. He lived life “his way” and continued to conquer any obstacle put in his way. With an open heart, he loved everyone unconditionally and without judgement. Everyone who knew him and loved him for it. Friends and family will gather to honor and remember Ben for a period of visitation on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 5-7 in the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut Street, Arlington, MA His funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 7 at 10 am St.Eulalia’s Church 50 Ridge St. Winchester, MA Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington, MA
