Joanna Hunter Hathcock Obituary

Joanna Hunter Hathcock, age 71, died in her home in Dallas, Georgia on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021. Joanna is survived by her husband of 22 years, Bill Hathcock, her brother, Michael Hunter and his family; her three sons, Joel Scoggins, Matt Scoggins, and Casey Scoggins, along with their families, including 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; as well as Bill’s children, Ashley Stenglein, William Hathcock IV, and Stevie Hathcock, along with their families and another 8 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Johnnie Hunter. Joanna was born on January 24th, 1950, in Atlanta Georgia to Mr. & Mrs. Hunter and big brother Michael, who was around 13 years old when she was born. Joanna was always a “Daddy’s girl” and loved her parents fiercely. She spoke of them and her love for them often. She also had a very special relationship with her brother. As a young woman, Joanna received a minority business grant for women to start their own business, and she joined her father and brother in the highway business. A truly memorable time in her life, she loved hosting Christmas parties and having gifts for every child in attendance. This shows Joanna’s giving heart. She always put others first, taking care of everyone else’s needs above and before her own. She loved her children and her grandchildren so very much. She clung to pictures of her grandchildren, often citing that she would just sit there and stare at the pictures all day long. Very thankfully, she was able to be with her 3 sons and their families just 5 days before she passed. A whole day spent together with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren…her heart was bursting with love when she left. A tribute to Joanna would not be complete with mention of her animals. Oh, how she loved her animals!! Bill often joked that the animals ate better than he did! Rotisserie chickens, livers, yogurt…even chicken nuggets from McDonalds were a regular item in her pup’s lives. Over the past few years, she started feeding feral cats on the farm, feeding them every night… she was up to feeding over 40 cats at different feeding stations around the farm! She loved those cats, and ALL of her animals. They were her best little four-legged friends. Joanna will be laid to rest on Monday, December 6th, 2021.
