Elvin Homer Thornton Obituary

Elvin Homer Thornton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away from this life on December 3, 2021, at the age of 81. Elvin was born in Sterling, Oklahoma on February 19, 1940, to Charles Thornton and Minnie Leigh Thornton. As a young man, Elvin heard his nation’s call and joined the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge for services rendered to his country when called upon to do so. Until his retirement, Elvin was a machine operator at Tinker Air Force Base.

Elvin enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies, including gardening, fishing with his grandchildren, and going to the casino. More than anything in his life, he loved visiting and spending time with his friends and family. Elvin’s caring heart touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Minnie Thornton, a grandson, Daniel Flores, three sisters, Ramona Lovell, Melvina Ford, Lorafay Curry, and one brother, Lawson Thonton.

Elvin is survived by his daughters, Lanita Thornton and husband Octaviano Flores, and Leigh Ann Bauer and husband Jim; a niece, Louise McAlister and husband Gerald; his grandchildren, Michael Myers, Sean Flores and wife Mollie, Natasha Flores and husband Ben Putnam, Alejandro Flores, Javier Flores, Nikki Thornton, Krista Rosedahl and husband Nick, and Andrew Gallo; five great-grandchildren; as well as one sister, Valys Bourlon.

Services for Elvin are currently pending. Services are under the direction and care of John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home & Chapel in Moore, Oklahoma.
