Joyce C. Cooke

Joyce C. Cooke, 81, of Prospect passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness.  She was the widow of the late David A. Cooke.  Joyce was born in Waterbury on August 11, 1940, a daughter of the late Frederick and Marie (DeBalthazar) Gibbo.

Joyce will always be remembered as a smart and independent woman.  She enjoyed working in banking for many years before retiring from a mortgage banking firm.  Joyce managed her home and finances independently as being able to age in place was a priority for her.  Being in her own home meant everything to her.  She was an animal lover and rescued her two cats Tabby and Sammy.  They were very lucky kitties indeed.

She was survived by her nieces and nephews; Bill (Elizabeth) Tierney III of Ma., Steven (Caroline) Lieber of Ca., Kenneth (Cathy) Tierney of Ma., William (Irene) Richardson of Waterbury, James A Schilling of Waterbury, David Schilling of Waterbury, Deanna M Crowe of Woodbury and Alan M Schilling of Seattle Washington.  She is also survived by her grandniece Dawn Simmons of Ma and grandnephew William Tierney IV of Mass.  Joyce’s also leaves her long-time caregiver and patient friend of ten years, Bete Syla.

Joyce was predeceased by her brothers and sisters; Frederick Gibbo, Marie Richardson, Dorothy Lieber, Vivian Tierney, and Rosemary Schilling.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11 am at Calvary Cemetery, 2324 East Main St., Waterbury.  There are no calling hours.  All those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.  Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to be assisting Joyce’s family with the arrangements.  You are invited to share fond memories, photos or words of comfort for Joyce's family and friends on her Tribute Wall on this website.
