Obituary

ROBERT JOHN FRUIN

1935 - 2021

On November 26, 2021, we lost our dear husband, father, and friend Robert (Bob) John Fruin. Those who knew Bob agreed he was a kind, considerate and gentle man with a dry sense of humour who enjoyed the company of family or friends over a glass of Chardonnay.

He was raised as a child in Walkerton, Ontario, and after leaving high school worked in the office of Bogdon and Gross. Soon he met and married the love of his life, Margaret Gibson. It wasn’t long before he ventured into a long and successful career in banking. After many promotions and moves across the country and eventually settling in North Vancouver, Bob retired in 2001.

Bob was a musician who began playing big band jazz saxophone in his teens. His first band was called The Esquires, followed by several other acts including the Metropolitan Concert Band, the Stardust Dance Band, and countless gigs with local favourites The Milleraires.

Buick automobiles were also one of Bob’s passions. Until recently he owned a collector 1965 Buick Wildcat convertible, and before that took great care of his coveted 1983 Buick Park Avenue which he bought brand new.

For 17 years Bob’s beloved Westie named Angus was his faithful companion, before crossing the rainbow bridge just 3 months ago. It warms our hearts knowing they are together again.

He was someone who always put others first and was admired and loved by those who knew him.

Bob is predeceased by his father, John Fruin, his mother, Pearl Fruin and his sister, Jacqueline Patton. Bob is deeply missed by his wife Marg, his daughter Stacey, his granddaughter Sophie Klassen and his son-in-law, Mike Klassen.

No flowers, please. Donations may be made in his memory to the British Columbia Cancer Foundation, the Lion’s Gate Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
