Kay Moleski Obituary

Kay Moleski (nee Bohay) was born on May 29, 1929 to Nick and Mary (Yarotsky) Bohay in the town of Goodeve, Saskatchewan. With her brother Louis she attended a country school. It was a distance of 3.5 miles from home, most of the time brother Louis walked with her. Some mornings they would get a ride with the neighbour, especially in the winter time. She completed Grade 11 in Goodeve High School. She moved to Kelliher to take a job at Chayka's General Store. After working for two years, she met her lifelong partner Harry, and they were married on May 15, 1949.Their life began on the farm for the first six years. When the first son Larry was ready to go to school during the wet years, the roads were not available to the nearest school. The decision was made to purchase a house in town and Harry continued to drive to the farm daily. This made it a lot harder with a lot of driving and taking lunches daily. Over the years the family grew in number to include four sons: (Larry, Donald, Patrick and Michael) and four daughters: (Marlene, Christine, Theresa and Elaine). With this large family, Kay and Harry kept chickens and pigs for meat and grew a fair size garden. Kay kept busy with sewing, cooking and baking. She made 20 loaves of bread three times a week. She also made perogies and other Ukrainian food, preserves and froze vegetables. It was a busy and happy time in the family. After the children left home, Kay made sure there was always homemade food for them to take back after their visit. Kay treated her children equally from the youngest to the oldest and always with much love. As time went by, the family expanded through marriage (Vonda, Betty, Bruce, Liz, Ron, Shannon and Brent). Kay was the proud and loving Baba to 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Everyone was received with love and caring into her Kelliher home. Kay enjoyed going for coffee with the ladies, who took turns to support the local restaurants. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, shuffleboard at the Kelliher Seniors, curling, bicycle riding and making beautiful ceramic pieces while sharing stories at Lena's and Tena's. The whole family were regular church goers, and Kay was active with the ladies' groups contributing to the bake sales, fall suppers and other activities. Kay was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Mary Bohay, her infant brother Stephen and her older brother Louis. Her husband Harry passed in July 1990. Due to health and the need to be near her family, Kay was sad to leave her home and friends in Kelliher. She moved to Saskatoon and lived in St. Volodymyr Villa and St. Joseph's Home. She enjoyed the activities at St. Vlad’s, and the Ukrainian environment at St Joseph's. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Saskatoon Home Care, and St. Joseph's for their kindness and care of our mom. Kay has left us with broken hearts and a legacy of love for her family and friends, and her love and devotion to God and church. She always led by example and taught us the importance of hard work, of giving and sharing, and of kindness and hope. We will miss her every day. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, December 6th 2021 from St. Vladimers Church in Kelliher with Rev. Fr. Basil Malowany as Celebrant. Cantor, Ladmer Moskal led in the responses. Crossbearer was Ron Yarosky, Michael Moleski was the Epistle-reader, and Leonard Moleski gave the family eulogy. The interment took place in the Parish Cemetery with Craig, Jeff, Adam, Stephan and Ken Moleski, and Tom Korchinski serving as the casketbearers. Memorials were to the Kelliher Legion.
