Mary E. Clark Obituary

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 Mary Elizabeth Clark daughter of William Brown and Thelma Goode Waters entered this life on May 13, 1935, in Richmond, Virginia and took her last breath on Monday, November 29th, 2021. As a young child, Mary was raised by her Great Aunt and Grandmother in Richmond, Virginia. When she became a teenager, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland to live with her mother. At the age of 20 on July 10, 1955, Mary was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Robert A. Clark, Sr. who she affectionately called “Bob” and who he affectionately called her “Toots”. From this union they had two sons Robert A. Clark, Jr. and Michael A. Clark, Sr. Mary lived a full and devoted life with Bob. They travelled together, served in ministry together and hosted the best family gatherings full of food, fun and fellowship together. When Bob signed up for the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in California and Newfoundland, Mary was stationed with him. Mary and Bob returned home to Baltimore when Bob’s military service was complete. They purchased their first home at 4214 Colbourne Road on Baltimore’s westside and became a well-known family and dear friend to the neighbors of the Edmondson Village area. Mary was a civil service worker with the U.S. Post Office. At the U.S. Post Office, she served as a custodian par excellence receiving many acknowledgments and commendations for her exemplary service up and until the day she retired. Mary served in Christian ministry at Leadenhall Baptist Church as a Deaconess, an Usher, and co-youth advisor with Bob. It was with the youth that Mary came alive. So much so, she loved her grandchildren her godchildren and any other children that she encountered. She was affectionately known as Aunt Mary. In addition to their missionary service at Leadenhall, Mary and Bob served well as members of New Bethel Bible Church in Baltimore, under Pastor Thomas Footman and Timothy Baptist Church in Baltimore, under Pastor James Ball. In 1991 Bob and Mary built and moved to the dream home in Red Lion, Pennsylvania where they soon joined Red Lion Bible Church (RLBC). At RLBC Mary Clark was a beloved, long-standing member where she participated in various activities and ministries, among which were the clothing drive, hospitality team helping to prepare for visiting missionaries, and Sunday morning children’s bus ministry. In addition to being a surrogate mother and aunt to many youth and young families, Mary was also known for her spirit of giving and care-giving, “a modern-day Florence Nightingale”. Mary had a true servant’s heart where she loved and gave out of the abundance of her “blessings”. Mary’s compulsion to stop by every yard sale and flea market she saw were redeemed by her lavish and unselfish giving away of her wonderful finds to anyone she saw in need. Mary furnished homes, clothed families and fed people hilariously, with unconditional love and grace. As an in-home care-giver over the years Mary cared for her great-grandmother, father, mother, husband and brother. The greatest attribute about Mary was that she was Saved. She loved our God. It was what she was most excited about and what she most shared with others determined that no one would leave her presence without hearing the gospel message. Mary was a devoted Christian with a meek and giving spirit. It was a joy to be around her. She gave her last ounce of love and devotion on Thanksgiving Day to her family as she prepared by her own hands, a bountiful feast by a wonderful cook Not only were bellies filled, but hearts as well. While Mary’s eyes joyfully surveyed the room, there was a visible shift in her countenance. For she witnessed the unity and love of family that she yearned for and desired. A sweet spirit permeated the living room proclaiming that, “All is Well”. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert A. Clark, Sr., siblings Abraham (Tom Boy) and Goode, Harry (Piggy) Goode, Sr., nephew Harry Goode, Jr., and grandson Robert A. Clark, III. Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory sons, Robert A. Clark Jr. and Michael A. Clark Sr; grandchildren - Leverne Samuels, Andrea Finch, Michael Jr., Nicholas, Nathan, Ontaria, Candice and Joshua Clark; God-daughters Shayla and Jessica Cheeks, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives (by blood and adopted), special friends and church members all too numerous to name but no less dear to her heart.
