Mr. Claude Michael Byrd, 72, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at his daughter’s home with family by his side. He was born January 13, 1949 in Knoxville, TN, a son of the late Emerson Grady and Callie Hawkins Byrd. Mike retired from the textile industry as a knitting technician. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and the outdoors when he was younger. More recently he has enjoyed woodworking, macrame and his computer. Survivors of Mike include his daughters, Claudia Michelle Gehring (Jeff) of Bessemer City, NC; Claudette Michaela Harvey of Mount Holly, NC; Shannon Hunt (Steven Pugh) of Charlotte, NC; brother, Emerson Bobby Byrd; sister, Patricia Gulledge (Bob); grandchildren, Jeffrey Michael Cowart; David Tyler Cowart (Kelse Arrowood); Jordan Amber-Lee Harvey (Chris Williams); great-grandchildren, Abbey, Mila, Eli, Ziva, and Lula Cowart, and Karter Owenby; nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Billie Cable Byrd. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 12:30pm to 1:45pm, at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont. A funeral service will follow at 2:00pm, in the Bumgardner Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Dewey Moore officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.
