Maureen Katherine McWhirter

Maureen Katherine McWhirter, age 68, died Sunday, November 28, 2021 at an Oklahoma City hospital after a short illness. She was born August 28, 1953 in Seward, Alaska to Tom and Violet Katherine Goresen. She grew up in Alaska and moved to Goshen, NY as a teenager. She graduated from Goshen High School and attended the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY where she received her Masters of Education Degree. Maureen taught for a short time in New York before moving to Guthrie, Oklahoma where she taught first grade for over 30 years. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by husband Ron of the home, three daughters, Katherine Osmus and husband Adam of Guthrie, Mary Rayner and husband Derek of Stillwater, Sarah Chappell and husband Jaden of Guthrie, and son, John McWhirter of Norman. Also, by eight grandchildren Kate, Elizabeth, Annabella, Gabriella, Liliana, Camden, Noah, and Andrew. Two brothers Thomas Goresen and wife Virginia of Edmond and Gregory Goresen of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Visitation for friends will be held from 4PM to 8PM on Friday December 3 in the Chapel of McNeil’s Funeral Service, Mustang, Oklahoma. Family will greet friends from 6-8PM. Funeral Mass for family and parishioners at 10AM on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at St. Michael’s Church, Bethany, Oklahoma. The burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Oklahoma City, will be held following Mass under the direction of McNeil’s Funeral Service of Mustang, Oklahoma. Memorial gifts can be made to St. Michael’s Church (notation: Building Fund) at PO Box 37 Bethany, OK 73008.
