Sammie M. Dent Sammie M. Dent, 62, of Joliet, IL passed away suddenly, on Monday, November 29, 2021. Sammie was born to the late Dorothy and Sammie Dent in Gary, IN. He worked as a correctional officer at Westside Correctional Center in Indiana and transferred to Stateville Correctional Center in Illinois in 1981 and retired in 2009. While working at Stateville, he also worked at Joliet Job Corp Center for several years. He loved mentoring at-risk youth. Sammie had a passion for cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed watching football, boxing, and UFC matches. Most of all he enjoyed his family and friends. He had a passion for travel and enjoyed Germany and Hawaii. He was extremely kind and had an outstanding sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Christine Dent; 6 children, Sammie (Carolina) Dent, Jr., Tasma Dent, Michael (Elena) Dent, Katherine (Sergio) Gurrola, and Abigail (Aaron) Gutierrez; 23 grandkids; 3 great-grandkids; and numerous nephews, cousins, and good friends. Sammie is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy; father, Sammie; sisters, Brenda Frye, Lynette Smith, and Carolyn Wilson; brother, Howard Love. Funeral Services for Sammie M. Dent will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
