Harold Percy "Jack" Stewart, Sr. Obituary

Harold Percy “Jack” Stewart Sr. entered peacefully into eternal rest at home with family on November 21, 2021. Jack as he was affectionately known was born to Madison Stewart and Alberta R. Stewart on February 4, 1926. He was the oldest and only son of 5 children. He was born in Harlem, NY and spent his formative years in Jennings, LA. He was a 20 year Retired Platoon Sergeant in the U.S. Army where he fought in the Korean War, was a tank operator, and received the Expert Pistol, Marksmanship, Army Commendation, and Good Conduct Medal. He and his loving wife of 34 years raised their two sons while serving in the U.S. Army. Many memories were made while they were stationed in Germany, Maryland, Kentucky, and Fort Polk, LA prior to moving back to Jennings, LA. He remained in Jennings with his family after military retirement and worked for the Jefferson Davis school board where he also retired. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and lover of everything outdoors. Jack was fond of the shared love of outdoors he had with his sons and grandsons. He was a member of the Huttig Hunting Club in Arkansas and enjoyed spending time with his hunting buddies every year; they called him “Sarge” Jack bred and raised beagles and at one time had a total of 30 dogs. He also had a green thumb and was known for his bountiful fruit trees. Jack knew all of the good fishing spots and was a fascinating storyteller. He enjoyed sitting on the porch in the sun for hours, watching hunting/fishing shows, visiting with family and friends, and riding the cart during his frequent Wal-Mart trips. His unending words of wisdom will always be remembered by everyone. Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife Gertie F. Stewart, his youngest son Clint M. Stewart, his parents Madison and Alberta Stewart, and nephews Prince Joseph and Rodney Felton. Those left to cherish and keep his memories alive are his eldest son Harold Percy “Rip” Stewart, Jr. and daughter in law Cynthia M. Stewart, his beloved companion Volyia Abraham and her dear children and grandchildren, four sisters Bettye Stewart Johnson, Nora Joseph, Norvell (James) Coley, and Elaine Joseph, his grandchildren Keith (Elizabeth) Stewart, Kristina M. Stewart, Kevin (Raven) Stewart, Karl (Brandi) Stewart, Jai Stewart, and Gertie Stewart, his nephews Jai “Skip” Johnson and James "Brother" Coley Jr., and nieces Juana (George) Taylor, Jayme Coley, and Janet (Arthur) Woodward, Great-grandchildren Karter, Alise, Kylan, Irvin, Karson, Karlee, and Kayson "Jack", and a host of family and friends.
