Mary "Colette" Kroeten

<p>Mary Colette Kroeten, 67 years, of Fremont, NE passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Methodist Fremont Health. </p><p><br></p><p>Colette was born on July 17, 1954 to Ronald and Eleanor (Zimmerman) Bahl in Minot, ND. Colette graduated from Bishop Ryan High in 1972 and attended Minot State before moving to Fargo and attending North Dakota State University where she earned her Associates of Nursing Degree in 1977. Colette first worked as an orthopedics nurse at St. Johns Hospital in Fargo, ND and later working for Dakota Hospital also in Fargo, ND. Colette dedicated her life to care and mentor others. After years of working as an RN she earned her Bachelors of Science in nursing from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, NE and later earned her Masters of Science in Nursing education from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Omaha, NE. After earning her degrees, she became a professor at College of Saint Mary and contributed in the development of multiple courses in a new BSN program curriculum and led the implementation of the first year of courses. Colette served as a parish nurse, served as Regent for Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and as a nurse volunteer for the Disaster Triage Team in Fremont, Nebraska. She regularly volunteered during service opportunities at the College of Saint Mary, focusing on the underserved. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Nebraska Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International’s Gamma Pi-at-Large Chapter and a member of the Executive Board since 2011. </p><p><br></p><p>On July 9, 1993, Colette married Terrence Kroeten at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo, ND. Colette and Terry were able to spend 28 years together until her passing. They shared a passion for their faith and scripture study. They also shared a love of travel and made many trips around Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa. </p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her parents Ronald and Eleanor Bahl, Jeanne Johnson (sister), and Mark Bahl (brother).</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her sons, Bryan (Jessica) Curry, Brandon Curry, Nate Kroeten, Franz (Angela) Kroeten, and Al Kroeten; daughters, Brenda (Jared) Newton, Breanna (Chris) Koval, and Christl (Bob) Kroeten; brothers, Kirk (Sandy) Bahl; sisters, Marcia Walljasper, and Renee (Brian) Johnson; and 9 grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral Mass will be 10 A.M., Friday, December 3, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard tribute service will start at 6:50 P.M. A Catholic Daughter Rosary will start at 7 P.M.
