Obituary

On the morning of November 27, 2021, God decided he needed another angel and Karen peacefully answered the call with her loving husband of 40 years by her side in the comfort of her home.

Born in Springfield, MA, Karen held many titles throughout her life including being an integral part to the founding and managing of multiple family businesses, a homemaker for her children in their younger years, then her true calling of editor/ author in her most recent chapter of life. However, the role her family knows she favored most was that of "Gigi" to her grandson, who was truly the love of her life.

A true creative, she loved nothing more than a good book, even better music, antiques, a quaint coffee shop and anything Snoopy. She was the life of the party and people could not help but gravitate to her easy-going, caring and infectious spirit. There will forever be a void that her family and friends will be left trying to fill in her absence.

She is predeceased by her father, Eugene Thomas Donovan (who her family feels she is sharing a happy hour cocktail with right now) and mother Francine Donovan (both of Manchester). She leaves behind her husband, Mark Matheny (of Manchester), two daughters, Alaina Stewart & husband Greg Stewart and their son (her "sweet baby boy") Camden Stewart (of Southbury) and Brenna Matheny (of Manchester), her brother and his wife Thomas Donovan & Betty Lou Donovan and nephews Dillon & Conor Donovan (all of Hebron), mother-in-law Madeline Matheny (of Manchester), sister-in-law Marcia Benson & husband Arnold Benson (both of Manchester), niece Carrie Ann Butler & husband Greg Butler and their three children Luke, Maddie & Jacob (all of New Hampshire). She also leaves behind numerous extended family and countless good friends from all over the world.

There will be no calling hours, but a memorial service will be held on Tuesday December 7, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester. A private Reception of Life will be held directly afterwards for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center in Manchester, Veteran charities, the ASPCA or other animal foundations. To leave a memory or message of condolence, please visit www.holmeswatkins.com
