Longtime Alaskan resident Thomas Gregory Staudenmaier, 75 died November 13,
2021 due to complications of advanced Dementia.
Thomas was born on November 22, 1945, in Menominee, Michigan son of
Frederick Antone & Marion (Verheyen) Staudenmaier. Thomas was raised on a
dairy farm between Marinette and Peshtigo, Wisconsin with his 9 brothers and 2
sisters. Thomas left high school early and joined the Wisconsin National Guard
and US Army Reserve in December 1962. In October 1963 he joined the United
States Army which sent him to Germany, France and then Vietnam in December
of 1965. He enjoyed his heavy equipment and tractors throughout his military and
personal careers. Thomas got his first taste of Alaska when they stopped to refuel
on their way to Saigon, South Vietnam. Thomas received while in the US Army the
National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
November 1967 he was honorably discharged from US Army and in December
1967 he enlisted in the US Air Force. The US Air Force brought him to Nellis Air
Force Base, Eglin Air Force Base, back to Vietnam and eventually to Alaska in
October 1969. He received his GED while in the US Air Force. He was honorably
discharged from the US Air Force in February 1972.
Thomas was passionate about Staudenmaier’s Electric Merger Committee. His
dream was to see the electric companies merge as a positive solution to reduce
your monthly electric bill.
He was a member of the Local Teamsters 959, International Union of Operating
Engineers Local 302, the VFW, the American Legion and Ducks Unlimited.
Thomas is survived by his daughter Ann Marie, granddaughters Brittany and
Meghan, one great-granddaughter; five brothers, Daniel (Lou Ann) Staudenmaier,
Michael (Char) Staudenmaier, Tony (Verna) Staudenmaier, Dennis (Jackie)
Staudenmaier, Francis (Judy) Staudenmaier of Peshtigo, WI; and two sisters,
Barbara Gratto, Menominee, MI and Linda (Scott) Marquardt of Marinette, WI.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Frederick & Marion; and four
brothers, Patrick, Gerald, Wilbert, James, and brother-in-law Roger Gratto.
There will be a military service at the Ft. Richardson National Cemetery on
Tuesday December 14, 2021, at 2:30pm. Anyone planning on attending the
gravesite please contact Ann Marie Staudenmaier to have your name added to
the attendance list. Plan on arriving by 1:45pm to line up in the procession @
JBER main gate visitors center. Coffee and Celebration of Thomas at Denny’s
after the service.
A celebration of life at is scheduled at Embers 1871 in Peshtigo, WI on Thursday
April 14, 2022.
