Richard Willis Bury Obituary

Richard "Dick" Bury, age 79, of Watertown, SD passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021, after a brief illness from cancer at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls.


Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 3, 2021 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown with Pastor Dave Nerdig officiating.


Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.


Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Military honors will be conducted by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard and Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion.


Honorary Pallbearers will be Dick's friends from Minnesota Rubber.

Pallbearers will be Pat Good, Ray and Corey Sauerwein, Joel Beutow, Chuck Clausen and Jeff Kirchmeier.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Codington County Cares Cancer Foundation, 818 S. Broadway #101, Watertown, SD 57201.


Richard Willis Bury was born to Willis and Lydia (Herr) Bury on June 24, 1942 in Butler, SD. He grew up in the Bristol/Butler area and graduated from Bristol High School. Richard joined the United States Air Force on December 28, 1960 and was honorably discharged on December 7, 1964.


On December 5, 1964 Richard married Peggy Bell in Southmayd, TX. The couple lived in Pierpont, SD before moving to Watertown in 1967. Richard was employed at Minnesota Rubber in the mold maintenance department. He retired in 2007 just a couple days short of 40 years. His beloved wife Peggy passed away on August 16, 2009.


Richard liked to joke around and enjoyed old country music and watching western's. He was also a Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings fan. Richard loved to hunt and fish with his grandson, Braden and enjoyed watching him play soccer and softball and going to every activity he participated in. He also loved his faithful pet companions, Pepper and Tucker.


Grateful to have shared in his life are his daughters, Laurie Taylor of Brookings, SD, Sonja Bury of Clear Lake, SD, and Heather Bury of Watertown, SD; his grandson, Braden Bury; and two sisters, Betty Kelzer of Bath, SD, and Linda Schmig of Groton, SD.


He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Bury, his brother Jim Bury, and his parents Willis and Lydia Bury.
