Elena M. Bentey (nee Lombardi), 68 of Edison passed away at home on November 27, 2021.

A Funeral Mass for Elena will be celebrated at St. Helena Church, 950 Grove Ave. Edison on Friday December 3 at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Arrangements are entrusted to the Galante Funeral Home in Union.

Born in Newark, Elena was raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA before becoming a longtime resident of Edison. She earned her master's degree from Rutgers University, and worked as a certified  dietician and nutritionist. Later, Elena proudly became a teacher of family and consumer sciences for 3rd through 8th grade students at Deerfield School in Mountainside.

Elena enjoyed walks on the boardwalk, and riding her bike. She was a talented cook and baker, and liked time spent tending to her garden. Fastidious in her appearance, she was always sure to be well dressed, and looking beautiful. Above all, Elena cherished her role as a loving mother.

Elena was the beloved wife of Peter Bentey; proud mother of Thomas Bentey, Joseph Bentey, Peter Bentey and Maria Elena Bentey; and dear sister of Michael Lombardi and his wife Jennifer, Joseph Lombardi and his wife Linda, Robert Lombardi and his wife Jackie, Stephen Lombardi and his wife Marion and Anthony Lombardi and his wife Solidad. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
