Alvin Williams was born a twin on January 7, 1955 in the Bronx, New York. He was one of three sons to the late Sallie Parker and John Moore. Alvin and his brothers grew up in the Bronx on Washington Avenue and were raised by their aunt Carrie due to the early passing of their mother. Alvin and his twin brother were known as Big-Al and Big-Cal. Both were educated in the New York City school system.

After graduating Alvin enlisted In the United States Marine Corps as a MortarMan. He was honorably discharged after serving a year and two months in 1975. He began working as a train operator for MTA and later became a United States Postal worker for the next five years. After a brief separation from his twin brother Calvin, they would later reunite spending twenty years together in the State of Michigan where Alvin would begin a more than thirty year career as a truck driver. He was a diligent and hard working man with ease fitting the description as a “Gentle Giant.”

Alvin was quiet, reserved, knowledgeable and a humble man, who would give you the shirt off his back. He enjoyed the pleasures of a simple life. He was a conservative, intellectual, and disciplined man. Alvin was family oriented, he was dedicated to his family and friends. He fathered four children whom he loved dearly. Alvin and Carol Williams bewedded on May 26, 2007 in Detroit Michigan, unioned in love with two daughters, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

There is not a person to be found that did not love Big-Al aka Alley-oop from the Boogie Down Bronx. He had a charming big smile with a heart to match, he was a kind gentle giving spirit who would go out his way for his family and friends. Like the old saying goes he was “sharp as a knife” in appearance, wit and humor you could not be in his company and not feel his radiance that could illuminate a room from deep within. Alvin loved traveling, not only playing basketball but also attending games, spending time with his family and going to the casino, which he would refer to as the “Clubhouse”. Alvin relocated to Schenectady New York to live close to his children and grandchildren (who tenderly referred to him as G-Pop) where he would also reunite with his God-given nephew Arty who worked at the Clubhouse.

He was preceded in death by his mother Sallie Parker, father John Moore and twin brother Calvin Williams. He leaves to cherish his memory his brother Jerry Williams; a God-given sister, Michelle Muse; two daughter’s Latoya Williams and Crystal Williams; sons, Charlie, Antoine and Lenny Williams all of Schenectady New York. Grandchildren; Tyler, NaQuan, Trevon, Kaliyah, Zahmaire, Ahziere, Masai, Lanai; great grandchild Roman. One aunt Queen Ester Smith; two special god-given nephews Arthur Chapman and Cory Nolan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other close family and friends that are too many to mention.
