Ulyessis M. Perkins Obituary

Ulyessis M. Perkins, 85 of the Standard Dedeaux community, passed away Thursday at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in the family home in rural Hancock County on January 19, 1936, one of four children to Hildon and Ittia (Ladner) Perkins. Growing up a South MS country boy, Ulyessis enjoyed the outdoors, as well as playing basketball and baseball with his friends. He went to school until the 7th grade when he decided to go to work and got him a job at the sawmill. He married Rita Malley June 19, 1957 and they made their home there in Standard Dedeaux as well, spending their lives together there. Ulyessis worked hard to provide for their family, driving dump trucks, driving pilings and more before getting a job with MDOT. He bushhogged and mowed the roadways around South MS for many years until his retirement. He was from the old school of thought, planting a garden and raising vegetables every year, kept bees for honey and so much more things to sustain the family. In his spare time, Ulyessis relaxed while fishing or playing music. He played the harmonica and picked his guitar, both of which he was quite accomplished at doing and could play them both at the same time. Of all his hobbies though, he was a serious turkey hunter and looked forward to the challenge it brought him every year. He is lovingly remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all whose life he touched. Ulyessis was preceded by his parents, Hildon and Ittia Perkins; his sister Annie Faye Galjour, brothers Hayward and Roger Perkins, and his daughter-in-law, Shantel Perkins. Left to cherish the many fond memories are: his loving and devoted wife of sixty-five years, Rita; their children: Velvie (Reggie) Cuevas, Valisa (Larry) Cooley, Marty Perkins and Sally (Lyle) Smith, all of Kiln, with Dena Perkins and Kaylene (David) Hodges, both of Gulfport. He leaves a long legacy of sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grands and countless extended family, friends and neighbors. Services will be held Monday, November 29, 2021 at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a chapel service at 11:00.  Afterward, he will be laid to rest in the Standard - Sandhill Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Perkins family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayer through this difficult time.
