Janice Ripperger Hampton, Iowa Obituary

Janice Ripperger

Janice Ripperger, 83, of Hampton, passed away November 26, 2021 at Sheffield Care Center in Sheffield. Funeral services are 10:30 am Friday, December 3, 2021 at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton. Janice was born October 26, 1938 in St. Paul, Iowa. She grew up in West Point, Iowa, graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic High School there. Janice met John Ripperger at a skating rink and they were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point on November 14, 1959. She moved to Hampton when her husband was named park ranger at Beeds Lake State Park. It was in Hampton that she raised her sons, James (special friend Sandy Hanson) of Mason City, Iowa and Jerry (Karen) of West Des Moines, Iowa. Janice was extremely proud of her granddaughters Megan (Andrew) Kwon of Fayetteville, NC and Sarah (Travis) Wiederstein of Manchester, NH supporting both their academic and athletic activities. You likely saw Janice’s smiling and helpful face over the many decades she worked at Hampton Distributing. She was also an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton. Janice is survived by the love of her life and husband of 62 years, her two sons and granddaughters, sister Karen (Eldon) Ripperger of Burlington, Iowa, and brother Carroll (Dorothy) Fraise of West Point, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jerry and Carl, and sisters Darlene, Margie, Norma, and Ruthie. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Sheffield Care Center in recognition of the skilled and caring staff that helped Janice at end of life and the food pantry at St. Patrick's Catholic Church to help with immediate needs in our community.

I always enjoyed visiting with Jan when she would come to the office for DNR licenses for Hampton Distributing many years ago. She was such a nice lady and I enjoyed her laugh. It was a common and pleasant sight to see Jan and John walking together outside. My condole... Continue Reading

She and John were two of the last full-time Beed's Lake Park rangers. I included Janice as I recall her being just as important to Beed's Lake as John's duties. She and Mom worked at Hampton Distributing together. I always could find her laughing about something. Sh... Continue Reading
