William "Bill" Althoff Obituary

William Althoff, 95, of West Fargo, ND, passed peacefully on November 24, 2021, at Eventide on 32nd Avenue So., Fargo, ND.

He was born on March 26, 1926, in Fargo, ND,  and was raised in a series of local orphanages.  Once on his own he worked in the automotive repair industry as a mechanic and in upholstery repair. He was also a welder at Westgo Industries in West Fargo, and he also worked in maintenance at the North Broadway Scheels in Fargo, N.D.  Bill also volunteered time at the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch Thrift Store.

He was deeply spiritual, and he found comfort early on in life in the Fargo Church of the Nazarene and the Golden Ridge Church of the Nazarene.  But his main joy in life was his family.  He thoroughly enjoyed attending his son’s hockey and football games and that continued with his grandson’s baseball and football games.  He was always ready to drive his son and his friends to and from sporting events and state hockey tournaments and would often be at the ice rink playing hockey with his young son. He will be deeply missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Irene-Daisy Althoff, West Fargo; son, Colonel, US Army (Retired) Jon William Althoff and his wife Stephanie (Heinz) of Oxbow, ND; grandson Christopher Althoff (Emily Monson) and great grandson Donnie, Horace ND, grandson Cory Althoff (Dr. Susan (Obermiller) and great grandson Oliver and great granddaughters Lillian and Abigail,  grandson Kyle Althoff (Sharilyn Stansbury) and great granddaughter Charlotte, Oxbow, ND, nephew Clay Hage (Kathy), Riverside, CA, and niece Tanis Wichmann (Steve) and great nephews Joey Wichmann and Tom Learner, Moorhead, MN, and step-sons Jack (Isabel) Martinez, Brownsville, TX, and Ramiro Martinez, Austin, TX.

He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law,  Clifford and Grace Hage.

Service:   2:00 pm Wednesday, December 1, 2021, in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, with Visitation held one hour prior to his service.
