Mike Elavgak Leavitt

Nikiski resident Mike Elavgak Leavitt, 73, passed away Nov. 20, 2021, at home. Services will be 12 noon Monday, Nov. 29, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. Burial will follow at McGahan Cemetery. Mike was born Nov. 24, 1947, and raised in Barrow. He graduated from Mt. Edgecumbe in 1967 and graduated from trade school at Haskell University in Kansas shortly after. He worked for 40 years in Alaska’s oil and gas industry. Mike enjoyed playing his harmonica, banjo, and guitar. His family wrote, “The adventures and hardships he experienced during his youth shaped the values that guided his adult life. He was loving, caring, protective and generous to his family and a loyal friend to those who took time and effort to get to know him. After completing college, he moved to the Kenai Peninsula with the hope of providing more opportunities for his new family. The Peninsula soon became his permanent home, where he would live out the remainder of his days. He found satisfaction in his work, music, and basketball. The greatest source of pride and joy where his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The 50 years that Mike shared with his wife, Loretta, will continue to live on through the generations that follow.” “Aapa, you have touched more lives than you realize. You are loved deeply and dearly.” Mike is survived by his wife, Loretta, 6 children, 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 sisters and a brother. Arrangements by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
