Brenda Joyce Hubbard Litchfield, Michigan Obituary

Brenda Joyce Hubbard

Brenda Joyce Hubbard, 78, of Litchfield, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 at home. She was born on April 25, 1943 in Hayward, Missouri to Jimmie Jackson and Myrtle (LaFerney) Evans. Brenda graduated High School in Dogwood, Missouri and later received her Bachelor’s Degree from Spring Arbor University and her Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University in Health Care Administration. After working a significant number of years in the healthcare field, she retired from Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. Brenda’s greatest love was her family. She grew up in a large, loving and hardworking Christian family. She remained close to all of her siblings. Although separated by many miles, they spoke frequently and visited together annually. On February 16, 1962, Brenda married Eugene Hubbard, who she met at a sidewalk sale in Flint, MI. (She was always searching for a good bargain!). Brenda and Gene were inseparable. Gene’s passion for life quickly rubbed off on Brenda. Every experience was shared together, including raising three girls. Brenda never wavered in her support and encouragement of those who were important in her life. She set an example of how to treat others with compassion and respect. Her girls were the center of attention, that is, until the grandchildren and ultimately great-grandchildren came along. She loved writing letters to her family and friends, especially those who were away at college or serving in the military. From family adventures, traveling or setting in the stands or on the sidelines to cheer her family in their chosen sport, Brenda made sure she was present for the important and fun moments. Brenda and Gene were College and Career Leaders at Twin Cities Baptist Church in Burton, MI for several years prior to relocating to Litchfield. The impact she made on the lives of those young people, and they on her, is evident by their lifelong friendship. Brenda was also a highly regarded healthcare professional. She took time to mentor others and serve wherever and whenever needed. She enjoyed serving as a member of the Professional Women’s Business Association. Brenda was a loyal, confident, patient and supportive leader and her colleagues found great joy working alongside her. It seemed to be the simple pleasures that brought the most joy to Brenda. Providing a home environment that welcomed all, living in the country, gardening and reading as many books as she could get her hands on were things she cherished. In addition to her husband, Gene, Brenda is survived by three daughters, Shelleye (Greg) Yaklin of West Olive, MI, Traci Jo Hubbard of Litchfield, Teri Finegan of Litchfield; four sisters, Melva Thulen of Tennessee, Sherry Goetz of Illinois, Phyllis (Ron) Frayser of Ohio, and Dasima Evans Bagby of Missouri; one brother, Sonny (Kathy) Evans of Virginia; five grandchildren, Kent (Alyssa) Yaklin, Jaycob (Kelsey) Sullins, Jacob Yaklin, Travis (Mackenzie) Finegan, Baylee Finegan; and, four great-grandchildren, Hayden Yaklin, Damien Yaklin, Russell Hodge and Adilyn Sullins. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Alma Berry and one brother, Keith Evans. Funeral services for Brenda Joyce Hubbard will be held Monday, November 29, 2021 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church in Litchfield with Pastor Brent Stille officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-6 PM at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield and again on Monday from 10 AM until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hillsdale County Animal Shelter. Arrangements are entrusted by the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield.
