John James Murphy Freeland, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at his home. Age 83 years. The son of the late Marie (Pretzer) and Bernard Murphy was born July 4,1938 in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Hemlock High School and engaged in farming all of his life. He married Muriel Ann McMillan, August 8, 1964. She passed away November 20, 2015. John was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the First Area Credit Union Board of Directors and on the Thomas Township Board of Review. He enjoyed gardening, his envious onions, was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He enjoyed having coffee with his farming friends and a bit of Jameson each afternoon. Surviving are five children and their spouses, John (Laura) Murphy; James (Teresa) Murphy; Michelle (Jerry) Scott; Matthew (Katherine) Murphy; Michael Murphy; a son-in-law, Bryan Miller; his grandchildren, Zachary (Megan) Miller, Adaline Miller, Ryan Larson, Liam Miller, Samuel Murphy, Abbey Scott, Sawyer Murphy, Ashton Scott, Clinton Murphy, Benjamin Murphy, Claire Murphy, Xander Murphy, Cole Murphy; a great grandchild, Jameson Miller; a brother and two sisters, Pat (Charlene) Murphy; Marjorie Loiacano; Marian Hughes; a brother-in-law, Arthur Ontiveros; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was predeceased by a daughter, Bernadette Miller, a grandson, Avery Murphy and a sister, Kathleen Gilles. The funeral liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2021, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd. Saginaw. Rev. Peter Gaspeny will officiate with burial in St. Andrews Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may then call at the church from 9:00 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral liturgy.
