Catherine Rosemary (Durstin) Bayer 89 of Torrington, passed away on November 22nd, joining her husband Walter of 67 years who passed away in June. Catherine was born in Unionville Ct. on April 21, 1932, to Joseph and Mary (Matava) Durstin. She grew up in Torrington and attended Sacred Heart Church and School. In 1950 she met the love of her life, Walter, while ice skating on Besse pond with friends. They were married on May 22 1954 at Sacred Heart Church. After the wedding, Catherine moved to San Pedro California with Walter while he finished his enlistment in the US Navy. Upon his discharge from the service they moved back to Walter's childhood home. Catherine worked at the Warrenton Woolen Mill, she then worked for Allied Grocers in Torrington and in Windsor Locks. After leaving Allied Grocers, she was the office manager for the orthopedic office of Drs. Rueben, McCoy and Wisch. She then went on to doing bookkeeping for Friendly 's in Torrington all while raising her 4 children. Catherine enjoyed camping with her family, each year making the family vacations fun and educational. The family enjoyed many happy weekends camping in the back yard of longtime friend John and Dorothy Burdick and their family. Due to her love of crocheting many of her friends and family can now treasure and appreciate the love she put into her gifts
The family would like to thank her caregiver Stacie, for her care and devotion, who was always there for her and us, when we needed her the most.

Catherine is survived by daughters Donna and husband Domingos Miranda of Cohoes NY. Rita and her husband Jack Repas of Cornwall Bridge CT, Christine and her husband Manuel DaSilva of Torrington CT and her son David and his wife Lisa Bayer of Waterbury. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren that she cherished every minute she spent with them, Carrie and her husband Robert Wine of Ellington CT, Manuel and Devon DaSilva both of Torrington, Carissa and her husband Michael Devino of Waterbury and Chelsea-Jo Bayer also of Waterbury. Three great grandchildren Kiley Paige and Liyah Rose Wine and Joseph James(JJ) Devino. many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she is predeceased by her infant son Anthony Bayer, her six brothers, Joseph, John, Stephen ,Andrew, Michael and Paul Durstin
Calling hours will be Saturday November 27,  from 8 to 930 AM at Phalen Funeral home 285 Migeon Ave, Torrington, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St Francis Church 160 Main St. Torrington.( Masks Required).  Burial will follow at the New St. Francis Cemetery South Main St. Torrington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the St Francis Little Guild 285 Sharon Goshen Turnpike West Cornwall CT or online at www.littleguild.org or Charlotte Hungerford Hospital 540 Litchfield St. Torrington.
