Roger Fay Sherman Obituary

Roger Fay Sherman Jr., 69, a well-known musician and song writer and resident of Barney Road, Bennington, died Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.


On January 1, 1952 Roger became the first baby to be born that year at Putnam Memorial Hospital. Roger was the son of the late Roger Sherman Sr. and Alma (Sawyer) Sherman. He married the former Marie Lampron at Sacred Heart Church on November 5, 1977. He received his education in the Bennington schools and later graduated from Spencer Business and Technical Institute in Albany and Community College of Vermont. Afterwards, he worked in computers and electronics for a period of time.


Roger’s love was music. He was an accomplished musician and song-writer. He formed several area groups over the years including, The Bandroids, Reverse Spin and Nitrophonic. He wrote and produced many albums under RFSII music.


He was very proud to be a direct decedent of Stephen Fay, landlord of the famous Catamount Tavern in Bennington, the notorious hangout for the Green Mountain Boys of Ethan Allen in the early American Revolution.


Roger was a Family man who had many interests and hobbies, and loved talking to everyone.


Survivors include his wife, Marie Sherman, a daughter, Stacey Marie Sherman and her fiancé Chris Raetz, a son and daughter-in-law, Nathan Eli Sherman and his wife Amber, five grandchildren, Kaylee, Liam, Lilah, Coralie and Celeste and a sister, Dianne Banulis and her husband David, all of Bennington. Roger is also survived by several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by a brother, Gary Sherman


The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Son Funeral Home Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.


Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.


Burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.
