Shirley A. Hornung, 91, of Rutherford Heights has finally gotten a rest on November 21, 2021. She was born December 29, 1929 in Ashland, PA the youngest child of the late Arthur and Emily (Lindenmuth) Sturm. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Warren William Hornung from Lavelle, PA. <br/>Although Shirley spent a few years working for Pennsylvania Blue Shield, she spent a lifetime sewing. Many a dress, pair of pants, jackets, Halloween costumes, draperies, and slipcovers benefited from her custom fitting. In later years she began to produce uniquely embroidered bags that were provided to foster children, allowing them to carry their belongings as they made their individual paths to adulthood. <br/>Shirley will also be long remembered by the many quilts and embroidered decorations for Christmas trees she produced for every member of her extended family. She was a founding ‘mother’ of the Piecemakers Quilt Guild and active for over 15 years, providing embroidered name tags for every member. She was also a member of the Blue Shield Retirement Club since 1999. <br/>Shirley will be missed by her family including 6 sons, Don and Carol of Elizabethtown, Craig of Harrisburg, Mark and Diane of Etters, Bruce and Michelle of Carlisle, Kurt and Dolores of Easton, and Scott and Lisa of Elizabethtown; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. <br/>A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 10:30-11:30 at Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 260 East Main St., Middletown, PA 17057. Graveside service will be held at 12:30 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Shirley A. Hornung, 91, of Rutherford Heights has finally gotten a rest on November 21, 2021.
