Rachel Anne Denman, 87 years of age, passed away on November 18, 2021. She was born April 26, 1934, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to Reverend Elmer Hoyle Denman and Lela Cox Denman, both of Georgia. She was the middle of nine children, preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, survived by two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Sanders of Austin (Lance), Laura Murphy of Augusta, Georgia (Colin), and by three granddaughters, Allison Sanders of Austin, Madison Broussard of Houston (Joshua), and Catherine Murphy of Augusta, Georgia, along with many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. One of her sisters also resides in Austin, Roselyn Witherspoon. Family was always so important to Rachel, and she always kept up with the latest family news and events. Growing up in the Presbyterian church, Rachel lived in a few different towns in Tennessee, then in Texas. She graduated in 1952 from Bradley High School in Cleveland, Tennessee. She attended Montreat College in Montreat, North Carolina, then Kilgore College, in Kilgore, Texas, where she was a Kilgore Rangerette. She then moved to San Antonio to live with her older sister and her family. She worked at the office of the downtown Sears store, where she met Edmund Dusek, whom she married in 1956. They were married in Hopewell, Virginia before moving to Munich, Germany, where she began her love of travel. After living in Germany for two years, Rachel and Ed returned to San Antonio where they started a family. In addition to her love of family, Rachel loved to travel, and she lived several different places during her adult lifetime, including Madrid, Spain, and Mexico City. She accomplished her life-long goal of visiting all 50 states. The past 30 years she lived in Austin, where she could be close to her grandchildren. Mima was the best grandmother, always very involved in her granddaughters' lives, attending all of their activities and programs. She was an active member in the Assistance League of Austin, where she volunteered, and was also very involved at her church, Hope Presbyterian. Rachel was always so nice, polite, and compassionate. She made the world a better place and will be so missed by everyone who loves her dearly. Thanks so much to the caring staff at Arden Courts Memory Care, where she spent the last few months of her final journey. A memorial service will be held at a later time at Hope Presbyterian Church in Austin. Any memorial in her name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
