Barbara Jean Gerlach Obituary

Barbara Jean Gerlach, age 85, of Brookfield, Ct, formerly of Danbury, Ct, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born in Danbury, Ct. She attended Danbury Schools and was a graduate of Danbury High School Class of 1954.

In her earlier years, Barbara worked at Heli Coil in Danbury. Her next job she held for 35 years at White Conservatory Florist on White Street in Danbury. Barbara enjoyed those many years of floral design. In her later years, she worked at Massena’s Flower Shop on Main Street.

Barbara was a member of the Woman’s Service Organization at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a past secretary of the Miry Brook Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  At that time, she was also secretary of the Alfred Seferblade Scholarship fund.

Barbara, along with her husband, had a passion for NASCAR. They traveled to many races along the east coast. From New Hampshire to Florida, often taking their Grandchildren with them. She loved to crochet. If she knew you were having a baby, she would get right to work on making a blanket. Her recent past time was reading romance novels. Back in the day, when she received the newspaper, she always challenged herself to finish the crossword puzzles.

Beside her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Richard (Dick), sons Richard (Rick) and Thomas (Tommy) and sister Louise. She is survived by her daughter Teri Bardin and her husband John. Along with 5 Grandchildren: Robin Gerlach and fiancé James; Cassandra (Chuck), Joslyn (Tico), John and fiancé Angela and Jacob Bardin. Along with 10 Great Grandchildren: AJ, Joseph, Alanna, Alyssa, John, Addison, Shane, Jackson, Olivia and Leon.

Barbara is also survived by her sister Judy Scott and husband Bill from Florida and brother Edward and his wife Shirley from Colorado. Along with nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Clapboard Ridge Road in Danbury on Saturday December 4th at 10:00 am. Interment will be private at Ridgebury Cemetery.
