Arthur Larry Burkey, age 77, died on November 15, 2021. Larry was born on December 23, 1943, to Beatrice Brandt Burkey and Art Burkey. He graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s High School in 1961. He married his high school girlfriend, Barbara Sauber, in the fall of 1961. Larry and Barbara raised four children during their 60-year marriage. Larry was a man of many talents. He was an avid bow hunter and hunted all over Oklahoma, Colorado, and Canada. He was a staff shooter for Matthews Archery and held a patent for a bow site marketed under Eagle Industries. Larry was a talented musician. He was a young boy when he received his first guitar. He taught himself to play by ear. He took this talent into adulthood where he was the lead guitarist and singer in a band for many years. Larry’s ability to fix anything led him to his career of auto mechanic. He started working for his sister at Masterbuilt Motors, and eventually owned his own engine rebuilding company, JoyCo Engines. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice, and father Art, siblings Kenneth Burkey, Elsie Raper, Joy Horton, and sons Joe Burkey and Kirk Burkey. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sauber Burkey, sister, Geraldine Gipson, daughter Anita Keith and her husband Tommy Keith, daughter Jaime Johnson and husband Donnie Johnson, grandchildren Dawson and Ty Keith, Cade and Kohen Sanford, and great grandson, Kannon Keith, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside Services will be on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 4375 S. Meridian Avenue, at 2:00 p.m. The family is extending an invitation to friends and family that are unable to attend and wish to pay respects for a come and go reception at the Johnson home, 921 Drake Drive, Choctaw, Oklahoma from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
