She was the proud grandmother of ten: Elise Holder (Jorden), Katharine Wojcik (Josh), Edward P. Julie went on to become the first in her family to earn a college degree, graduating as a registered nurse from the Ona Wilcox School of Nursing in Middletown, CT. Julie was employed by the City of Meriden as a public health nurse, assigned to Maloney High School, where she enjoyed the students she cared for, and the friendship of her colleagues friendships that endured long past retirement! Julie retired in 1991. Her years spent at Maloney were some of the happiest of her life. Julie enjoyed reading, gardening, attending musical productions in N.Y.C. and at the Goodspeed Opera House. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family and learning about new destinations. A highlight in her life was a trip to Italy and Germany while visiting her daughter living overseas. Many family vacations were spent camping in the mountains of New Hampshire, or the beaches of Cape Cod. She enjoyed visiting her family in Florida, and Maine. She celebrated every holiday, hosting many of them and enthusiastically decorating for each one. She was known for making delicious deviled eggs, and her potato salad was fondly called “the world’s best” by family members! Of all Julie’s accomplishments, her family was by far her greatest achievement. She created a large, close-knit, and loving family and together they will continue to honor her memory by remaining close and being supportive of each other.
