Alice Laverne Benson Obituary

Alice Laverne Benson, Age 86, went home to the Lord on Tuesday 11/16/2021 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. She was born December 3. 1934 to the late Clarence and Effie Shelton Mabry of Henderson, Kentucky. She married Robert Ray Benson April 30, 1966, and was married until his passing in 1991. Alice was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church. She loved her job at Sturgis Elementary School, where she served children lunch for over 25 years, retiring in 2005. Her most cherished possessions where her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She loved life and was grateful and joyful for each day. She was proceeded in death by her parents Clarence and Effie Shelton Mabry. Her husband of 26 years, Robert Ray Benson. Brothers Edwin Mabry, Carroll Mabry and EJ Mabry. Sisters Agnes Brooks and Inez Bacon. She is survived by four daughters Sharon Willett and Chris of Morganfield Lisa Smith and Jerry of Shawneetown, Il Rita Alvey and Craig of Morganfield Judy English and Marc of Morganfield Her grandchildren include Seth Courtney, Paige Willett McBride and Brandon Courtney DeLorme Money, Hailey Smith, Joshua Smith, Kelly Alvey Collins and Blake Hanna Alvey, Kaylyn English Cruse and Ali Bethany English, Marcus English , Benson English Her Great Grandchildren include Ava and Mela Courtney, Jaxson Nesbitt, Carrson and Cashden Money, Nova Smith , Ainsley and Will Collin Funeral Service will be 3:30 PM Saturday 11/20/2021 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, KY. Rev. Terry Hargrove, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Friday and 1-3:30 PM Saturday at the funeral Home. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. Her family is truly grateful for the medical personnel of Union County/Deaconess, church families and friends for all the support given during this time. In lieu of flowers you can donate to a charity. These were mom’s favorite charities: The Shriners, St. Jude’s, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association
