Dondrei E. Martin Obituary

Dondrei Erlondo Martin was born on October 22nd, 2003 at Barnert Hospital in Paterson, NJ to Andrei Martin and Deborah “Mitzie” Henry, both of the Gutters District, Bushey Park in St. Catherine, Jamaica. In his early years, Dondrei would split time between the United States and Jamaica, traveling back and forth several times before the age of 5. There is no doubt that Dondrei was indeed “on the go” from birth! On September 30th, 2006 Deborah joined in holy matrimony with Triston Hibbert after several years of friendship and courtship. Often we witness two lives becoming one at weddings, but on this day three lives became one and this family started their journey. Dondrei often stated how special he felt having two fathers, two men in his life that he could look up to and would shape him to be a man of honor. Dondrei attended Paterson Ecumenical Preschool before moving on to School #8 where we attended until the 4th grade. In these early years, Dondrei loved cars and trucks and would marvel when they passed by. He also loved to sing while watching children’s shows and movies, often memorizing every word to each song. Music was certainly in his DNA from a young age. In July of 2014, Dondrei moved to Mount Olive Township in NJ with his family and attended Chester M. Stephens Elementary School, Mount Olive Middle School and Mount Olive High School. Dondrei was a dear friend to everyone in the community. He played sports, including football and basketball but his passion was always music. Dondrei gave his life to the Lord and was baptized on May 12th, 2012 by his grandfather Bishop Barrington Hibbert in Passaic, NJ. He was very active in the church, participating as a member of the Youth Department and praise band. Dondrei learned to play the keyboard and was primarily self-taught! You would find Dondrei on the organ or keyboard every Sunday giving all praise to God. While attending high school, Dondrei held several jobs including Paragon Senior Living, Burger King in Mount Olive, and Simply Jerk Jamaican Grill in Monroe Township. He was a very hard worker and every employer had nothing but glowing remarks for him. Also during his later years, Dondrei continued his musical endeavors and learned a lot about audio and mixing, even at his very young age he was a “go-getter” and determined. When he put his mind to something, there was no turning back. Dondrei celebrated his 18th birthday on October 22nd, 2021 spending quality time with his family and close friends. On the very next day, Dondrei suffered multiple injuries in a tragic car accident and was rushed to the hospital immediately where he spent the next few days on life support. Despite the bleak prognosis, Dondrei defied all odds and survived longer than the doctors expected, allowing for loved ones to come from near and far to see him one final time. However, on October 31st the time had come and Dondrei died peacefully at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ surrounded by his family. He was a son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend to many. Everyone that came into contact with Dondrei loved and felt his spirit. He will be sadly missed, leaving many asking the question why? However, God’s will is sovereign and in Him we’ll always trust. Dondrei was predeceased by his loving Uncle Alberto “Mickey” Henry; great-grandmother Violet “Mamma” Henry and grandmother Erica C. Hibbert. He is survived by: his parents: Andrei P. Martin, Triston and Deborah Hibbert; Siblings: Andrei Martin Jr., Triston D. Hibbert, Jr., Andreinique Martin, Daquan Martin, Makayla Hibbert, and Alayah Martin; Grandparents: Ucent and Pearleta Henry, Eura McCarthy, Lenford Martin Henry, Barrington and Michelle Hibbert; Uncles: Deron Henry, Barrington Clayon Hibbert, and Delbert Thompson; Aunts: Sandralee Thompson, Andrea Martin, Venise Reid, and Nadia Henry and hosts of great-uncles, great-aunts, cousins, church family, neighbors, friends and schoolmates.
