Mary Jean Ciccolella

Mary Jean Ciccolella, 92 of Follansbee, WV died peacefully on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at home. Born on September 6, 1929, in Wheeling, WV a daughter of the late Percy Vivian and Dessie (Summerson) McConkey Wilhelm. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Umbert Ciccolella, a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Ciccolella, and her son-in-law, Jesse Avila. She graduated from Wheeling High School in 1947 and went on to graduate from West Liberty State College with a B.A. in Education in 1964, then with a M.A. in Education from West Virginia University in 1969, and then she attained her master’s plus 30 in 1971. Mary Jean was a reading specialist with Hancock County Schools from 1964-1988, and then as an associate professor at West Liberty State College from 1969-1991, and as an associate professor at West Virginia University in 1976. Mary Jean was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Mary Jean is survived by three children, Deborah Ann Avila of Houston, TX, Umbert J. Ciccolella of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and Daniel A. Ciccolella of Follansbee, WV; her brother, Bill (Carole) Wilhelm of Wheeling, WV; five granddaughters, Abigail (Matt) Speltz, Shannon (Andy) Frazier, Kelly Powell, Marissa (Matt) Galiano, Gabrielle (Daniel Cawthorn) Ciccolella, ten great grandchildren, Eva and Lily Speltz, Elisa, Kaelie, A.J., Chase, Livia Frazier, Emily, Cody, and Jackson Powell. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 13th from 11:00 A.M. until time of Funeral Liturgy of the Word at 12:00 P.M. at the Mullenbach Funeral Home at 669 Main St. Follansbee, WV with the Rev.
