Michael H. Swires of Houston passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side after a short illness on November 5. Mike was born in Ohio on January 3, 1945, to Howard and Lucille (Paridon) Swires. He attended Campo Alegre School in Caracas, Venezuela; The Taft School in Watertown CT; and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Stanford University. He met his wife of 56 years, Judith (Dysinger) in Santiago, Chile, while both were attending school in California. Mike’s career with General Tire and Exxon moved their family often. They lived in Ohio, Mexico, Argentina, Ohio again, Florida, Michigan, and Louisiana before settling in Houston in 1986. Since “retiring” from Exxon, Mike worked as a consultant, traveled extensively, and spent his summers in San Juan Capistrano, California. He was very active in his neighborhood and will be missed by his supper club and wine tasting group. Mike is survived by his wife and their children Michael (Angel Vogt) Swires, Chris (Shannon) Swires and Erin (Kenneth) Peters; he is also survived by his sister, Patricia and sisters-in-law Susan (Maurice Dobosz) Dysinger, and Minka (Vern) Berry, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the beloved grandfather/BePa of Adeline, Quinn, Lane, Michael, Hunter, Perry, Nicole, Kate, Connor, & Bennett, and was happiest spending time with family in Houston, Seattle, and California. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his big laugh, his even bigger hugs, and his endless collection of white graphic t-shirts. A Celebration of Life will be held November 20 at 11:00 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 1101 Antoine. Reception to follow at the home of Judith Swires.
