LaJoyce Martin Obituary

“Goodbye World Goodbye”

Fern LaJoyce Martin, a resident of Henryetta passed away Tuesday, November 9th, 2021, in Henryetta at the age of 84. She was born April 24th, 1937, in Walnut Springs, Texas, to Rev. Donald Berry and Sis. Lorene (Rhodes) Berry.

She married Rev. Elroy Martin May 22, 1959, in Cleburne, Texas.

Bro. & Sis. Martin retired from pastoring the Morris United Pentecostal Church after many years. She & Brother Martin pastored four churches, including Pueblo, Colorado; Hobbs, New Mexico; Temple, Texas and Morris, Oklahoma. Bro. & Sis. Martin's ministry spanned over sixty years evangelizing, pastoring, doing dramas for camps, mentoring and encouraging all they could. Sis. Martin influenced scores of people to serve the Lord and follow their call into whatever ministry God was leading them. Their ministry will live on in those they influenced and won to the Lord and will continue to win the lost. One of her proud accomplishments was receiving her honorary doctorate from Dr. John Scheel at Lighthouse Christian College and Christian Academy.

Bro. & Sister Martin traveled internationally, including to Australia & New Zealand. They traveled nationwide for nine years. Sis. Martin spoke all over the United States and in other countries for ladies' retreats and many other events. She was well known for her aggressive and anointed piano playing and singing. In the ministers' and wives' choir at campmeeting in Mustang, many times Sis. Martin "brought the house down," as they say in Pentecost. She was an accomplished author with many Christian romance books among the numerous volumes she has in print.

Bro. & Sis. Martin will always be remembered for their portrayal of their hit skits, mainly "Penthils."

She is preceded in death by her parents: Rev. Donald & Sis. Lorene Berry; her loving husband, Rev. Elroy Martin; also by daughter Angella Beth Hurt.

Among survivors are her children:
Son, Kevin Martin & wife Karen of Mineola, Texas;
Daughter, Bethany Sledge & husband Rev. Carl Sledge, missionaries in Berlin, Germany;
Son-in-law, Dewayne Hurt of Okmulgee;
Four grandchildren and her first great-grandchild, Emerson Hurt;
