George H. Horton, Jr. Obituary

Bangor - George H. Horton Jr., 75. died peacefully on November 8, 2021 at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 21, 1946, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Dr. George and Juanita ( Ober) Horton.

George graduated from Hebron Academy, University of Maine and the New England School of Law. George was an outstanding athlete, he lettered all 4 years in cross county, basketball and tennis while at Hebron.

George loved all sports. He returned to UMO as an avid hockey supporter and fan for many seasons. However he often seemed to slip out before the end of the second period to avoid the post-game traffic leaving the arena ! George’s true passion was playing and watching golf, and he was a long-time member of Bangor Muni.

For many years he was co-owner of Color Concepts, a painting supply and interior decorating store in Bangor.

He will also be remembered for his sense of humor and that infectious laugh that lasted to the end. Friends would call him every morning just to have a chat and talk about old times, reminiscing over life’s adventures which always included a humorous golf story.

George never had children, but loved watching his 3 nieces grow up and truly enjoyed his relationship with them. George lived in the same neighborhood for many years and he valued his neighbors and their support over the years, as well as the support of his buddies, especially as his health declined.

Surviving is his brother, Jack R. Horton and his wife, Judith of Dallas, Texas; three nieces, Tracy Horton of Chicago, Stacie Horton DeLeon of Dallas, Texas and Lindsey Horton Pettigrew of Colleybille, Texas and his former wife, Linda S. Horton, of Bangor. George was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, James S. Horton of Bangor.

Friends are welcome to call 11-1 pm Monday November 15, 2021, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer.

Interment will be immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, with Pastor Gary Turgeon of the Crosspoint Church of Bangor officiating.
