Early Monday morning, November 8, 2021, Robert Allen Flowers, escaped this world and arrived in the presence of our Heavenly Father. For the last few years Robert battled Lewy body dementia, as well as Parkinson’s disease. Always with a good attitude. Ultimately, complications from a stroke ended his life.

Robert was born July 10, 1950, to Hershel (Pete) and Virginia Flowers in Glendale, Arizona. When Robert was still in junior high, his parents packed up and moved their family of 7 to Oklahoma and eventually to Broken Arrow where they made their home. Robert and his siblings attended Broken Arrow Schools, where he graduated in 1968.

During the last month of his senior year of high school, Robert laid eyes on a sweet young 15-year-old beauty named Karen, who was walking home from school. He was on his way to visit a girl who lived across the street. Next thing you know, he was devoting all his time in capturing little Miss Karen’s attention.

Robert heard the call to serve, soon after he graduated and joined the Oklahoma National Guard in 1969. While he was in training, he and Karen kept the postman busy. Karen used to take a roll of paper from an adding machine and starting at the beginning, she’d tell Robert how much she missed him until she had written the whole thing. Then she’d roll it back up and send it off in a little box. Mail Call brought much ribbing from superiors and his squad members, as Robert’s mail always smelled like “flowers”. These romantic gestures continued through their fifty year marriage. He took care of her - always doing little things like having her tea ready and sitting on the corner of the counter every day at 5:00 pm.

In 1971, two weeks after Karen walked to receive her High School Diploma, she walked down the aisle at Blue Starr Church of Christ where Robert patiently waited. They said their “I do’s” and started their adventure, making their home in Broken Arrow.

To better support his wife and future family, Robert attended Tulsa Electricians College. Soon after his graduation Robert and Karen welcomed their first son, Chris. During this time, Robert was helping Don build a little house over near Oologah Lake. Right before construction was finished Don asked his daughter Karen if she would like to live there. Next thing you know, Robert and Karen were packing their bags and moving to Rogers County just outside Claremore.

A year and a half later, Robert and Karen introduced their second son Brian to the world. It was during this time, that Robert learned how to hunt and fish. Hunting and fishing was not just a pastime, but a passion that Robert passed down to his boys.

Robert played baseball in high school and later played adult softball and adult soccer in Claremore, OK. Robert served for several years as Baseball Commissioner and worked as a soccer referee in Claremore. Robert also coached his sons’ baseball and soccer teams for many years. If Robert wasn’t with his boys on the athletic fields, you could find them in the woods or out in a boat looking for their next trophy.

One year Robert and his two brothers, Mike and Rodney, were out duck hunting on Oologah Lake and heard a cry for help. Two hunters were hanging on for their lives to their sunken boat, in the freezing cold water. Had it not been for Robert and his brothers, the men would have died. In 1980… the three were given a commendation for their heroic actions.

Just when they thought they were done raising their kids, Robert and Karen became foster parents to tiny baby Blake on Valentine’s Day of 2000. In June of 2002 the love they had for this precious little three-year-old became permanent through adoption. Blake Ryan officially became a Flowers.

Robert was a long-time member of the Electrician Union IBEW Local 584. He even spent 2 years working in New York, always coming home to his sweet Karen and boys at every opportunity. After a successful career as an electrician, Robert was fortunate enough to go to work with his brother and bestfriend, Mike. The two served Claremore at Mike’s Tire for the next 20 years until Robert retired.

Robert was always a hard worker with good work ethic, great character, and passed along those values to his children and grandchildren.

Robert is predeceased by his dad, Pete Flowers and stepmother Velma, Mom Virginia Brunson and stepfather Walter, and brother Mike. He is survived by his spouse of over 50 years, Karen, his sons Chris and wife Stevie, Brian, and Blake: his grandchildren Dalton Flowers and Maddison Hassell, Kassidee Flowers- Murphy and Mike Murphy, Luke Flowers, Brice Flowers, Justice Flowers, Bill Bynum, Delsin Bynum, Edward Bynum, and Hunter Bynum: daughters-in-law Deonna Flowers, Samantha Wilks, and Jennifer Edwards. He also has one great granddaughter, Nora Sun Flowers.

Robert is survived by his siblings, Kathy McElroy, Judy Flowers, Rodney Flowers and wife Jill; half-brothers, twins Steven and Stacey Brunson; and step siblings, Skip Roberts, Ronnie Roberts, Jerry Roberts and Deann Meeder: sister-in-law, Sue Muller and husband Tommy, brother-in-law, Brad Holinsworth, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be at Rice Funeral Home in Claremore on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 2 p.m.
