Garland Ray Heatley Breckenridge, Texas Obituary

Garland Ray Heatley

Garland Ray Heatley, 92, of Breckenridge, died on Friday, November 6, 2021. His funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Gunsight Baptist Church, with Rex Boggs officiating. His interment will follow at Hart Cemetery under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Garland was born in the middle of a cotton field (so he has always said) on January 31, 1929, to parents Wylie Douglas and Emma Caroline Heatley in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. He moved to Breckenridge, Texas, with his family at an early age. Growing up, he loved hunting and fishing and working with his dad on different ranches throughout the area. After meeting and falling in love with his future bride (the love of his life), he would ride his horse from his parent’s house -- from an area just west of what is now known as Hubbard Creek Lake -- to her parent’s house at Hog Mountain, where she was expected to cook and prepare a meal for them. He married Jeannie Parks on August 22, 1947, in Breckenridge. Garland was a devoted husband. He sat and held his wife’s hand from morning to night every single day for weeks before her passing. He worked for Community Public Service Gas Company and later Brazos River Gas Company until his retirement. He was a 4-H Adult Leader and participated in FFA with his children and other children in the community. Garland was a member of Gunsight Baptist Church. Mr. Heatley is survived by his four children, son Mike and his wife Clydean Heatley of Breckenridge, daughter Caroline “Kakie” Beene of Stephenville, son Bill and wife Connie Heatley of Breckenridge, and daughter Debbie and husband Matt Bolinger of Beaver, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Garland was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters. The Heatley family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the Villa Haven Nursing Staff for their care of our father. Memorial donations in Garland’s name can be made to Meals on Wheels or the donor’s favorite charity and can be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home office.
