Warner Marion Richter, III Obituary

WARNER “SONNY” MARION RICHTER, III, age 66, of Frederick, died at his home on March 14, 2004. Born in Forest Hill, he was the son of Mary Marcia Huson Richter of Carpenters Point, MD and the late Warner Marion Richter. He had retired from Harford County where he worked as a Chief Plumbing Inspector. He lived in Harford County all of his life except for the last three years when he and his wife moved near their daughter in Frederick. An early introduction into the family hobby of motorcycling led Sonny to an east coast racing career beginning at the age of 10. Turning professional after graduating from Bel Air High School in 1955, he continued racing motorcycles through 1958, and then racing Formula V cars, gaining his National Sports Car Club of America license. He attended the University of Maryland where he was a member of the Maryland National Guard and the Pershing Rifle Drill Team. A Master Plumber, Sonny worked with his father at Richter Plumbing in Havre de Grace, MD. He next became a plumbing inspector for Harford County DILP and later Chief Plumbing Inspector. He collected and restored antique motorcycles, was an avid photographer, and a loving husband, father and son. In addition to his mother, Mr. Richter is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Shadwell Richter; two daughters, Diana L. Wilson and her husband, Paul S. Wilson of Frederick; Susan R. Twigg and her husband, James A. Twigg of Bel Air; four grandchildren, Gilbert T. Wilson; Douglas C. Wilson; Madeline S. Wilson, all of Frederick; and James A. Twigg, Jr. of Bel Air. Pallbearers will be: Paul Wilson, James Twigg, Sr., David Shadwell, Stephen Huson, Mark Carpenter, and Cecil Cullum. Honorary pallbearers will be: Edwin Huson and Jerry Larner. Those who desire may contribute to Muscular Dystrophy Association MD Chapter, 8501 LaSalle Road, Suite 211, Towson, MD 21204.
