Marlow: Thomas Roy Garvin, 83, passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 in Oklahoma City.
A memorial service was held by family and friends on October 30, 2021.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Callaway-Smith-Cobb Services in Marlow.
Thomas ‘Tom’ Garvin was born Wednesday, March 16, 1938 in Odessa, TX, to Roy and Norma
(Singleton) Garvin. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1956. At the University of
Oklahoma, he earned a Bachelorand#39;s Degree, then Master’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Tom married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Poe, September 12, 1959 in Duncan. He served in
the Army during the Vietnam War, and did a tour of duty in Europe, including Germany.
He worked in various positions for Halliburton over 35 years. During his career, Tom and his
family lived in Duncan, OK, Portland, TX, Enid, OK. and Midland, TX. His profession took him
around the globe to Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
After retiring in 2000, Tom and Barbara made their home in a pastoral setting outside of Marlow,
OK. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before she preceded him in death December 14,
2016. Tom was an adventurer who enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, and was active in the NRA.
He was a wonderful friend, husband, father, and grandfather. He was full of stories he
experienced while completing his ‘bucket list’.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Shellie Kay Garvin, and his
parents.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Garvin) Murphy and her husband Patrick of Glenpool;
two grandchildren, Kean and Kylie Murphy; his brother, Herb Garvin and wife, Cindy of Lawton;
his nieces, Shanon Garvin, and her sons Zach and Aston Moore, of Broken Arrow, and Dana
Garvin, of Limerick, Ireland.
