John “Dan” DeBow died October 28, 2021. He was born on August 19, 1939 in Nashville to the late Lucian DeBow and Henrietta DeBow Sweet. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his older brothers, Lucian Jr. and Randall. After graduating from East Nashville High he enlisted in the Army. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany where he met and married Ruth, his wife of 57 years. After honorable discharge Dan moved back to the US. He worked in New York as a sales rep for 3 years. With great intentions of raising a family in the South he moved to Atlanta in 1970 and opened his own company selling mailing equipment which he owned for 55 years. His son Stephan was born in 1970 and his daughter Vanessa was born in 1975. Dan never met a stranger. He loved singing, dancing and being the life of the party. Parties around the world are mourning the loss and raising a glass to him. He was a passionate tennis player for over 40 years. He loved the Braves, from way back! In retirement he traveled the world, and enjoyed a circle of friends and attending his church Smoke Rise Baptist. As a father he was always present loving, providing, coaching or cheering for his children. Speaking highly of them to anyone that would listen willingly or not. As a grandfather he was beaming with pride of all 5 of his grandchildren. Most of all he loved his family. He is survived by the love of his life, Ruth DeBow, son, Stephan DeBow (Melissa), grandchildren, Braden, Trent and Hadley , and daughter, Vanessa DeBow Mullen, grandchildren, Dodge and Dylan, and sister Ann Morgan. A memorial service will be held at Smoke Rise Baptist Church on November 14th. Visitation at 2 PM, Service at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
