Eugene R. Sapp Obituary

Eugene R. Sapp (Gene), 87, of Columbus, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021. Preceded in death by parents Raymond and Stella Sapp, sister Judy (Ed) Burke, brother Roger (Carol) Sapp, and sister-in-law Toni Sapp.  Survived by loving wife of 60 years Norma Weithman Sapp; children Julie (Scott) Bowman, Mike (Kelly), Matt (Michele), Mary (Paul) Leanza, Tom (Julie), Mark, Brian. Grandchildren; Brandon (Lauren) and Lindsey Bowman; Daniel, Rachel, Brian, Emma, Paige Sapp; John, Joe, and Sophie Leanza; Angela Sapp; great-granddaughter Avery Bowman; wonderful brother Jack; many relatives and friends.

A lifelong resident of Columbus, he grew up in the Hilltop, graduated from St. Charles and the Ohio State University. He and Norma raised their children in Clintonville and worked very hard to provide a Catholic education for them at Immaculate Conception and Watterson HS. His children appreciate the sacrifices that they made.

During his 41 year career in the Electrical Engineering Dept. at OSU his office door was always open. He received many awards for service and made lifelong friends. While teaching at Franklin University, he endeavored to make statistics understandable.

Always the proud and devoted grandfather, Gene adored and remembered every detail of the time that he spent with his grandchildren. His humbleness, gentle nature, and kind heart will be missed by all.

The Sapp family is grateful for Beth Wise in addition to the staff at the Forum at Knightsbridge.

There will be a celebration of Gene’s life with a Mass of Christian burial at Immaculate Conception Church 414 E.N. Broadway at 10:00 a.m. Saturday October 30 2021. Family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the Mass (9:00 a.m.). The church requests that masks be worn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Immaculate Conception Church/School (ICcols.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
